2018 Re:Focus – 5 days (1 – 5 Jan)

I know i’ve really not blogged for awhile my devotional thoughts, so here’s my new year resolution to start 2018 with a Bible reading plan, and I invite you to join me – you’ll need the Bible app – just click on the link in tweet below to join!

Day 2: Focus – In the secret place (Jer. 4:1)

When do we most struggle entering God’s presence? It seems to me all to easy to allow oneself to wander & stray from God’s presence especially in those alone times when no-ones watching.

Interestingly, Later in the chapter it talks about circumcission as an outward sign of a heart devoted. Yet what use is external signs if reality says something else?

Circumsission is deeply personal and not something I particularly feel comfortable talking about. I guess though it is something of a picture of where our devotion to the Lord starts first! Its in the secret place with God, the place where no ome else sees, which is also the place in reality where idols and sin first rears its ugliness.

Therefore if we overcome in our secret place and devote it to God He promises blessings as we choose to live in truth, justice and righteousness (living to bring joy to His heart) we first need to commit our devotion daily to the Lord.

Father God, help me this year to overcome first in the secret place, to circumsice my heart especially where it feels exposed, that sin would not spoil my relationship with you. This year help me choose daily to live out of my secret place with the Lord. Amen.

Day 1: Focus – see God at work in your circumstances

Sometimes lifes cicumstances leave us without adoubt that God’s hand was in it whilst at other times we wonder if indeed God was involved.

Yet as Paul writes here we can have confidence that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him!

Sometimes, maybe quite often we just have to trust that God who sees all things is going before us (v. 27) even when we don’t see it ourselves! In these times we can say with absolute confidence that “all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose”

How might we see what happens today, this week, month and year that God is working things out? The psalmist writes in Psalm 34:7-9 that we are to take refuge in him and that we who have experienced His goodness can trust in Him totally. This year when life’s circumstance throws things at you lets learn to take refuge in Christ and lean on him! To trust that he is working things out for our good! Remember the things that try to take us down ultimately only lead to make us stronger in our faith!

Father, help me this year to see you in the circumstance of life and especially where i don’t undestand to trust you that you are working things out for my good. Amen.
